The Bold and the Beautiful

#essentialsbyellen Joan Bardee www.dearpaperlicious.com

NOTE:  if you are looking for the Essentials by Ellen giveaway post, it is at this link.  Thanks!

Also, a commenter asked me yesterday what type of white ink I used on the wrapping paper in the post below.  I use Memories Unicorn pigment ink.  I am very pleased with the coverage this ink provides and believe, but am not sure, that it is now marketed as Hero Arts Unicorn pigment ink.

The second I saw the Mondo Magnolia dies in the Essentials by Ellen line, this card came to mind.  The big bold beautiful flowers remind me of Marimekko.  If you were around in the 1970s, you'll remember seeing Marimekko fabric, dishes, etc. everywhere.  It was so groovy!  If you weren't around, bless your heart.

This is an A6 card to accommodate more of the flowers, but you can fit parts of 3 flowers on an A2 card.  Since there is no ink or stamps, this is a snap to make.  Cardbase + die cutting flowers and you are done.  A great way to use scraps.

Essentials by Ellen Spring Release 2015 Blog Hop

Hello!  Welcome to the Spring 2015 Essentials by Ellen Release Hop.  I am so HAPPY and honored to be participating.  Julie Ebersole has designed four stamp and five die sets that are perfect for all things Spring (and Summer; dang, you can use these all year round!). You can find them here.

I'm showcasing two of the new products, a sentiment set for the women in your life, Amazing Women, and the Bohemian Garden Dies (although a few other products from the Spring Release snuck in).

Oh, and one lucky commenter on Dear Paperlicious will win Amazing Women.

In order to be eligible to win this stamp set, please leave a comment on this post no later than May 5th.  I'll announce the winner here on the blog on May 6th.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

The fun begins in the CLASSroom and there is also a Grand Giveaway! To enter, be sure to leave a comment there, and at every stop along the hop by May 5th!  Winners will be announced May 8th.

Happy Hopping (so much beauty!!) and Good Luck!  Oh, and here are the hoppees:

Before you skeddadle to the next blog, I've got 4 samples to share.

1.  And That Is All.

Sometimes a sentiment set says it all!  This card uses Amazing Women and Bohemian Garden stamps and dies and will end up in Mr. Dear Paperlicious' backpack.

2.   Happy Mother's Day Gift and Tag.

Next up is a rustic (for me) is a kraft wrapped package on which I stamped the gorgeous flower from Mondo Magnolia, which is Mondolicious.

The tag includes another sentiment from Amazing Women and stamps and dies from Bohemian Garden.  The green "ink" is Ranger Liquid Pearls Key Lime.

Striped paper on the tag is from the fun Pink Paislee's Bella Rouge 12 x 12 collection.  My mom died a couple of years ago, but I was inspired by her when I made this.  I know she would love it (or possibly go all snarky on me -- you just never knew!).

3.  For An Amazing Friend

This card also uses Amazing Women and Bohemian Garden.  Background is made with Adirondack Dye Reinker Brights.  Wanted the loosey goosey look because it is the opposite of what I usually make.

4.  Bohemian Garden Explosion!

The Bohemian Garden dies and stamps are just luscious!  Added a sentiment from Mondo Magnolia, and more of those Adirondack Reinkers, some gold paper and black spray.

Another big thanks to Miss Julie, designer extraordinaire and all around NICE person and Ellen Hutson who runs such a great papercrafting store.

Please continue on the hop and good luck with the contests!

Breaking News. Really. Essentials by Ellen by Julie ....

Dear Paperlicious here with real news.  Sometimes life hands me lemonade and I try not to screw it up.  This is one of those times.

The Essentials by Ellen by Julie Ebersole Spring release of stamps and dies is chock full of beauty, with a little chuckle thrown in, reflecting Julie's personality.  DP predicts major happiness throughout stampville.

Here's a bit of a card I made with some of these items.  More peeks later this week and next!

MOOD WHEN DONE = Pretty darn happy.

Using Adirondack Dye Reinkers

One of the best way to get vibrant watercolor -- Adirondack Dye Reinkers.   Love these bottles!  I suspect that you may get the same result with other dye reinkers, but I don't know as these are the only reinkers I have.

Unfortunately, Ranger has discontinued this line of products, but Ellen Hutson has them in supply as of the time I am writing this (linked below).  I used the ones that are part of the Brights collection.   There are also some available at Joann's and at Frantic Stamper -- probably other places as well.

The technique is easy, but result is awesome.

1.  Take a piece of watercolor paper and lightly spritz with water.

2.  Add a small dot of reinker -- this sample uses two colors, Watermelon and Sunrise Yellow.  A small dot (don't squeeze the bottle!) is sufficient.

3.  Spray with water and move the paper around until you are happy with the result.  You can use a paint brush to help move the color, but if you want some white spaces, so let the color go pretty much at random and don't add too much water.

4.  I did not tape down the paper (lazy).  As a result, the center lifts up dramatically and that helps move the color.  This will make a mess on your table, so do this on top of a water resistant mat and have paper towels handy.

5.  Let dry naturally or move it along with a heat gun.

6.  After it was completely dry, I took some gold Stickles and squeezed some on a mat. Using a piece of scrap cardstock as a palette knife, I applied the Stickles to the colored watercolor paper.  The glue goes away and just the stickles are left.  LET THE STICKLES DRY completely and you will be able to stamp over them.  In this case, I stamped a sentiment from Ellen by Essentials by Julie Hello Gorgeous.

Gorgeous, or as the husband would say, gorgeousity!

Muse Challenge #113/Diagonal Window Die

My entry into the Muse Challenge #113.

I LOVE the voila! moment created by the Essential by Ellen's by Julie Ebersole Diagonal Window Die.  Even the simplest card, like this one, has a little pop.  Here I've used the adorable image from Waltzingmouse Stamps Nordic Spring, and left enough space to write in a short note, because I'm actually mailing this one!

I tend to freeze when presented with a challenge.  But I'm digging in and stretching myself.  Michelle Ferguson from I Card Everyone is the Muse on the Muse Challenge blog last week, and presented the following card, which I LOVE and which provided the inspiration for my card.

Aren't those colors gorgeous?  I focused on the blue and white colors and then threw in a pop of bright pink and posted it just in time for the challenge to end.  (Yes, I tried about 3 versions of blue flowery cards but none of them came together...).

Essentials by Ellen Pin-Sights Challenge April

It's time for another Essentials by Ellen Pin-Sights challenge, and, put down that heat gun, ladies, I'm on the Ellen Hutson CLASSroom blog today.  Thank you, Ellen and Laurel.

CHALLENGE DETAILS:  The Essentials by Ellen Pin-Sights challenge is a monthly inspirational challenge based on a Pinterest Inspired photo that is located on the CLASSroom blog.  You can find the April Pin-Sights Challenge  and the photo HERE.

A random challenge participant will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Ellen Hutson store.   Awesome!

To be eligible, you must use Essentials by Ellen products and must use the photo badge as an inspiration.

Enter the challenge by linking up your creation on the challenge post, using the Inlinkz link up located at the end of the post. You have until April 29th to enter.

Now that the details are out of the way, here's what I made, inspired by the Pin-Sights challenge photo.  Used my new favorite thing -- the Essentials by Ellen by Julie Diagonal Window die. I have so many ideas on how to use this, particularly for Christmas.

Until the bow, and voila!

 See that charm?

It started out silver, but I colored it with a Copic E35 Chamois marker to turn it bronze, because that's what crafty people do.

MOOD WHEN DONE = Happy

All the products I used are listed on the Ellen Hutson blog, but I wanted to mention a few of them:

Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies Diagonal Window by Julie Ebersole
Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Hello Gorgeous by Julie Ebersole
Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Bold Blooms by Julie Ebersole
Versamark Ink Pad

Happy

Inspired by this card by Julie Ebersole, I made this fun little number for a former co-worker who is retiring next month -- my cohort is leaving the workforce in droves.

This awesome sentiment is perfect for so many occasions.  (Love when the font matches the sentiment.)

Hard to see, but there is a small amount of gold Stickles on the card behind the vellum panel.  Oh, and using washi tape for something other than holding down a die...

I sponged on the Stickles through a stencil.  That was interesting, as the sponge is now permanently stickled....The sentiment is embossed on vellum and colored (on the flip side) with Copic markers.

Product Review: Some Memories Should be Forgotten Four-in-One Punch Board

Breaking News

Some Memories Should Be Forgotten, LLC, PPC, Inc. Releases New Punch Board

EXCLUSIVE -- THIS IS A "MUST BUY NOW" EVENT

Dear Paperlicious is working twenty-three/seven to uncover the latest and the greatest in the papercrafting industry.   I can now exclusively report the amazing Four-in-One Punch Board that will change your life!

This amazing board:

1.  Punches holes anywhere, anytime, through anything.  See this?

And the best part is that all holes created by this board are self-healing.  No waiting at the ER or scrambling to find your insurance card.

2.  Creates three envelopes at once!  No moving paper and punching and scoring multiple times.  This baby allows you to put in one sheet of cardstock and create THREE A2 envelopes.  The Four-in-One Punch Board uses a unique, one of a kind, patented process (patent application still being drafted) that fuses the paper molecules, creating a big bang effect that results in numerous extra paper molecules turning into extra envelopes.

Due to the highly sensitive proprietary nature of this process, no pictures are available at this time.

3. It's a Trendalizer!  Today, insert paper, foam, even formerly trendy items such as mustaches and owls, into the Four-in-One Punch Board, and they will emerge completely covered in GOLD FOIL.  Next month, it marbleizes.  Only trendy people can predict future uses!!

4.  And, saving the best for last -- the Four-in-One Board ERASES BAD MEMORIES from your life.  Hate your old beau?  Insert a photo and poof -- it's Brad who?   Make an ugly card?  Insert the card and all memories of the time, money, and mess are gone!  Perfect for receipts for crafty spending, traffic tickets, bad haircuts, and report cards.

Essentials by Ellen April Mix it Up Challenge

My colleagues and friends were very kind when I retired last week (seems like months ago).  As a result I need a lot of thank you cards.

In the past I've shied away from challenges, as I find them challenging.  But I'm trying a variety of ways to jump the creative spark plugs, and ended up enjoying this one quite a bit.

The Essentials by Ellen April Mix it Up Challenge is to use stamps/dies from both Essentials by Ellen and Lawn Fawn. I am a HUGE fan of Julie Ebersole and her stamps and dies and cards and videos, so I had plenty of inspiration.

For this card and envelope I paired Essentials by Ellen Bokeh Dots and the flower in Bold Blooms with Lawn Fawn's Violet's ABCs.   (Lawn Fawn makes the easiest to use alphabet stamps.)

Can you see the pale pink flower on the envelope liner?  My favorite part of the design.

 And a final picture:

MOOD WHEN DONE = Happy

Supplies:

Stamps:  Essentials by Ellen Bokeh Bots and Bold Blooms; Lawn Fawn Violet's ABCs
Ink:  Memento Angel Pink and Rose Bud; Brilliance Graphic Black; Hero Arts Tomato
Paper:  Neenah Solar White and Paper Source envelope
Other:  Clear and Simple Stamps envelope liner

****

Thanks, again, for all the happy wishes for the blog and my retirement.  I'm still getting the hang of a whole new way of living and blogging may continue a bit sporadic until I get into a routine.

Easter Basket for Mr. DP (One Up Opportunity)

This bunny face!!!

A dark chocolate Lindt bunny surrounded by a few polka dot chocolate candies, all wrapped up in a soft cardboardy berry basket from Michaels that I whited up with a Hero Arts white ink dauber.

Since this basket is for a guy, I added a wood tag made from this wood paper.  The wood cuts like butter.  Well, actually like paper.  I've been hoarding my one sheet.  Takes ink beautifully.  Hoard no more!

Mr. DP and I have a running joke on one upping each other.  It will never occur to him to get me anything for Easter, so this little basket fits the bill perfectly!

Supplies:

Candy
wood paper
container (CraftsSmart brand from Michaels 6 containers for $5.99)
circle die
cellophane wrap
gold ribbon (Paper Source)
gold foil paper, button die (Impression Obsession)
VersaMagic Purple Hydrangea Ink
Encore gold ink
Hero Arts white ink dauber
Solid Hopping Bunny stamp from Impressions Obsession
sentiment from Waltzingmouse Card It
random dot stamp
off white filler papers (Paper Source)

BREAKING NEWS

DEAR PAPERLICIOUS IS BACK

NO ANSWERS TO WHERE SHE'S BEEN

For Immediate Release
April 1, 2015

Dear Paperlicious:

Now what??  Is this some juvenile April's Fool joke?  Is there anyone left who cares??

Signed,
Yawn

Dear Yawn:

Thanks so much!!!!  Your love sustained me through the dark days.

No, Dear Paperlicious is not a joke.  Blogging is serious business, my friend.  Dear Paperlicious is back, ready to post amazing crafty stuff that companies pay me to make, and write insightful posts on the industry and life that leave you begging for the book to be written.  This blog is going to be awesome.  It already has 196 views and that's just me editing this post.

DP is not quite ready for the craft-o-rama to begin because I've been busy working to design this blog.  Well, picking out a design.  It was exhausting and more on that later.

Question: do you have any idea how many blogger templates there are for sale?
Answer:  About 7,000 and 6,984 of those designs are exactly alike -- lots of black and white.  When did blogging get so serious?  Except for Social and Chic, who rocked this design.
So here I am, all giddy in my first-day-of-retirement glow, contemplating how I can get out of doing all the things I promised Mr. DP I'd do once I was retired (weeping with joy at the phrase "once I was retired").

Let the nothing begin.

Sincerely,
DP
