Tell Me: Social Media Questions

Preview of an Easy and Fun Technique

I'll be sharing this technique on Monday.  So cool!

In the meantime, I would so appreciate your thoughts on how and when you use social media.**

A lot of folks hear social media and run!  Or just think of Facebook.  But there is way more!  Social media includes forums, blogs, facebook, twitter, instagram and pinterest -- just to start!

Where are you on social media, and when do you drop by (meaning time of day and time of the week)?  Thanks!

**  I'm learning all sorts of new things in retirement, and one of them is how to use social media more effectively.

I am probably a dinosaur. I use blogger to check on my favorite stamping blogs. I have a pinterest account but don't check it very often, 2-3 times per month. I work full time and don't want to tie up much of my free time on the computer.

i'm pretty much like Karen - i have a blog, use bloglovin' to check my favorite blogs, and love to roam around on pinterest and have a good following on my pinterest pages (https://www.pinterest.com/bettijo519/) - lots of pins of cards i love. otherwise facebook, twitter, instagram etc. etc. - nada. i check in on my computer whenever i feel like it as i'm retired too and have the time for it.

Another dinosaur here. I used to have a twitter account but closed it when it got hacked for the third time. I hardly ever went there anyway. Love FB for staying in touch with friends and family, but rarely "like" or "follow" crafty people there...although I did create a page for my own blog there. I use BlogLovin' for reading blogs when I have time (which is not often enough).

Not much help, am I?

I read blogs. I use Pinterest to find ideas. I am active in a few cards sites and post card photos online. I do not use FB, twitter, instagram or anything else with the social media icon. I catch up by blogs with e-mail, then sometimes go the actual blog. I tend to catch up on blogs and e-mails early in the morning, other than that, I go on with my day.

I'm one of the worst possible people to chime in on social media....my FB account, for the short time I had it, gave me more fits than fun. it was always having trouble and caused me endless headaches. not worth it in the end, which is why I left. I don't use my twitter account as much as I used to, nor my pinterest account, although I LOVE Pinterest!

I'm finding I actually enjoy being LESS connected. I have blogs I love to visit, but leave it at that. that was part of my simplifying of life....

I have a blog, I read blogs (some through my WordPress feed, others I have bookmarked) first thing in the morning (between 4 & 7am). I had a Facebook page for my blog, but Facebook kept changing feed parameters and I got no traffic, so I deleted that. I have a Pinterest account, but only to see which of my projects have been pinned (self centered much?? the winner is NOT a card, but a recipe I posted). I don't have Twitter (not sure I need to know 140 characters!) or Instagram (which I know I would LOVE) because I don't have a smart phone. Have a great day, Joan!

Your comments are giving me food for thought. I'll be back, I suspect, with a post on the topic. Thanks and I hope more comment. I also received comments on my FB page. Interesting stuff.

Facebook is the social media outlet I've been connected to the longest. I use it to stay up to date on friends and family far away. I like to take the silly quizzes and only within the last year I have started "liking" pages of craft people/companies and pages about health.
I do not have Twitter or Instagram and am not interested.
I visit your blog and about 6 or 7 others via bookmarks on my browser; Safari. I recently downloaded the Bloglovin' app to my phone and iPad but have not got into the habit of checking it yet.
I LOVE Pinterest! I mostly browse it to relax or look, for ideas for cards and to look for recipes. I have actually "used" quite a few pins by making cards or trying the recipes etc...Though compared to the total pins I have, and keep on accumulating more, my usage is probably about 1 or 2 percent! 😳
I don't have a blog and don't plan on starting one. I guess I use social media more to gather information, be entertained and "observe" more than putting anything about myself "out there".

I have FB, Pinterest, Bloglovin, and Instagram. The first 3 I use religiously - Instagram completely confuses me! I'm sayin... completely LOL.

Social media - mostly SCS and and an Irish forum for current affairs. SCS several times a day every day. Blogs - I use The Old Reader to subscribe and try to check that at least three times a week, but I choose to check myself rather than receive notification by email. Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram,, Flicker and Facebook are not on my radar, I already don't have enough time. I check blogs in the evenings, usually, don't know why. And never from my phone.

I have 2 of my own blogs. I have very few readers, but it's a great way for me to keep track of my cards and drawings, and sometimes post for a blog hop or challenge. There are a couple dozen cardmaking blogs that I stay current with, via bookmarks that I check, but not all of them every day, and I don't subscribe because I don't want extra e-mails in my in box. I never set up an account on FB. Too much complication with the privacy settings that I just don't want to manage. Same reason I don't use Google plus. I look at Pinterest once in awhile, but I don't pin things. I'm active on one of the stamping forums, and a frequent reader on another. I may be another dinosaur but I'm OK with that :)

I like blogs and Pinterest (when I have time). I don't use any of the other. I spend enough time on the computer as it is. I suppose some folks will use Facebook to view crafty stuff because they're on there for other reasons and like to keep it all in one place. Sometimes I think the more connected you are the more disconnected you are. BUT, if you're in business and you want to catch a large crowd I guess you'd have to get yourself out there.

Add me to the dinosaur gang. I follow a few favorite blogs that I have bookmarked. Facebook is too easily hacked, pinterest you have to join to be able to see it (otherwise it's almost totally blacked out), twitter and instagram I don't bother with. I'm a full time caretaker for my mother so the only time I have to use the computer is late at night when she's in bed. By that time, I'm also ready for bed so I usually only check the blogs 2-3 times a week.

I have a Facebook account - use it daily to keep up with my kids, grandkids and friends. I also have a blog which I mainly use to post cards and quilts I've made. I love to browse a good number of crafty blogs at least several times per week. I just recently jumped into Instagram and love it! I love just being able to look at pictures when I don't have time to read through blogs. I mostly follow crafty people on Instagram, but a few friends also. No Twitter though!
